Professional PhD Student Headshots

For today’s session, I had a pleasure of working with Tori Frisbie, a PhD candidate at Jefferson University. Tori wanted to invest in professional PhD student headshots as well as use some for her LinkedIn page.

I have to say it is a great move on her part because her images will stand out among the rest. Most people under estimate the value of photography and often post a selfie taken with a cellphone. Having a professional photo shows you value yourself and take things seriously. You ever heard of the saying “You should always dress for the job you want, not the job you have?” Well, investing in a professional headshot is just the same.

I started the session on a white backdrop. I had in mind a white lap coat, but instead we worked with what she had, so we chose the white top. For the second look we switched to a pink top and a black background. And for the third look I had her wear a black blazer over a white blouse with an environmental background.

I find the variety of looks to choose from to be helpful when posting images on different platforms such as LinkedIn, a company website etc. Most websites have a white background, So it is safe to throw that into the mix, yet change it up for your other profiles.
