Not-So-Corporate Headshot Solutions
Many people are requesting Not-So-Corporate Headshot Solutions. As a business artist I understand completely where they are coming from. Many corporate images are captured on a plain background for consistency. That is fine, however I find the best solution is to go with an environmental portrait for those looking for something different. Environmental portraits can be taken outside, in the studio, or within your company space.
Don’t get me wrong I have no problem working with white or gradated as a backdrop, but given the chance to change it up – I’m in! Trust me I can help make ‘Average’ stand out with different lighting techniques and guidance. Everyone is unique and has their own story to tell.
My goal is to capture unique and approachable portraits for all of my clients regardless of the setting. The key focus is you not the setting. The setting is merely an anchor that flatters your clothing and at times adds to your story. There is no limit to what we can create be it in studio, outside, or within a public space.
Below are some samples from a session taken outside. I wanted to create a dreamy bokeh effect full of vibrant colors and one catch light in the eyes. The lighting here I used my Profoto with a soft box and the sunlight for the hair light. Just perfect setting really and right up the street from my studio to. The hot summer day didn’t stop us too. I made sure to position my client in the shade and to allow the bright sunny day to shine all around her.
When working with a client, I like to pause here and there and show them the results I am capturing them. This way we are both on the same page. I also direct my subjects how to pose and where to look, as well as fixing details such as the hair placement, necklace etc. Attention to detail is so key and it also saves on time in the editing room.
One other thing to keep in mind is you must start with a good image first and then you can refine it. For example maybe you have a blemish or scar that makeup can’t cover or bags under your eyes. If only photoshop were a reality in real time; imagine if we could walk into a machine, press a button and poof its resolved.
