Embracing Self-Portraiture in 2024

As the year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the journey of self-exploration through photography. It’s fascinating how social media has embraced my self-portraits, showcasing not just my skills but also the emotions behind the lens. With the arrival of 2025 on the horizon, I felt inspired to create a new series of photos that encapsulate the highs and lows of this past year.

Having spent years working in the darkroom back in the 90s, my love for black and white photography runs deep. This time, I set up my studio with a single Pro Photo B1 Plus light, using a zoom reflector positioned high above to achieve that beautiful butterfly lighting. The dramatic shadows it casts create an emotional depth that resonates with my experiences.

Dressed in all black, with my white-painted nails as the focal point, I experimented with various poses to express the whirlwind of feelings I’ve encountered this year. It’s been a roller coaster, filled with challenges and triumphs, and I’m optimistic about what the new year will bring for all of us.

I invite you to explore this new series and hope it resonates with you as much as it does with me. If you’re interested in fine art prints of these self-portraits or my other works, please check out the fine art link page on my website.

Thank you for your continued support throughout the year, and I look forward to sharing more of my creative journey with you in the studio in 2024. Happy holidays!
