DJ Promotional Portrait Session

Back in 2019, I received a request for a DJ promotional portrait session with artist Jeff Rush. When I first started with studio work, I would photograph DJ portraits by day and nightclubs by night. Therefore sessions like this one really resonates with my memory lane over the years.

Due to the nature of his line of work, it only felt natural to select a dark background. I used two kicker lights to highlight his shoulders. For the main light I used barn doors to create a subtle butterfly lighting effect. I find this lighting approach flatters my subjects and diminishes the attention onto the features they despise. To his delight ,DJ Jeff Rush was thrilled with the end results. He claimed he was hesitate at first to have his photo taken, but after a session with me his mind changed.

The original intention for this images was to be used for Peavy marketing materials. However that was just the beginning. You will also notice these images used throughout his social media, album covers, interviews etc.

Dj Jeff Rush is one of the top 5 Trance DJs on the East coast. He has a weekly online radio show called Dreamland and all of his archives can be found on his mixcloud HERE.
