AI Headshots vs Real Time
Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph a new client for my “Basic Headshot Session“. During our session, she made a surprising comment, saying, “I used Al for my headshot, but you did a way better job… I just wanted to let you know that you still have a job!” Ouch, I immediately bit my tongue, trying not to let my surprise show. Instead I decided to address “AI Headshots vs Real Time ” to provide my insight on the matter.
The power of photography lies in its ability to create a beautiful image that can make you appear a few years younger, a few pounds lighter, and better dressed. It can capture the best version of yourself, the image you have always imagined. However, how does this relate to the real-life experience of meeting your clients and customers? Will they see the “real you” or the edited version?
There is a possibility that nothing significant will happen. However, there is also the risk that people may not trust or relate to the edited version of yourself. In the worst-case scenario, this could even cost you business. The question then becomes, is it worth it? Ultimately, only you can decide.
As someone who has been a photographer for over two decades and has taken thousands of headshots, I have something that Al can’t compete with – hard-earned experience. When you come to my studio, it’s not just about a camera and lights flashing in your face. It’s about providing you with an experience that you can carry with you into your daily life.
In addition to capturing your headshot, I also offer posing advice during the session. I guide clients on how to turn their shoulders to create a more flattering angle and how to focus on their eyes to project confidence in the images. These skills not only result in a striking headshot but are also techniques that can be used in any future photos and even in projecting confidence through body language.
By the way, I want to make it clear that I’m not against Al or any other technological advancements. In 2023, we can’t hide from it, but we can be smart and honest in how we use it. So, my advice is to use it wisely and think twice before relying solely on a beautiful Al-generated headshot on platforms like LinkedIn to make new business contacts.
As the renowned photographer Paul Caponigro once said, “It’s one thing to make a picture of what a person looks like, it’s another thing to make a portrait of who they are.” If you’re interested in exploring the idea of getting real headshots done, I would be happy to chat with you. Feel free to get in touch, and let’s discover how headshots can truly capture your essence.
