Easy Steps to Sculpting the Human Head

A sculpture workshop with artist Grigory Gurevich is a unique workshop that has been develped by the artist himself. With the help of this workshop, students will get an insight to the world of sculpture and they be able to develop their ability in this medium.

The workshop begins with the introduction to the correct proportions of the human head. The secon step is a demonstration with explanations of the anatomy from the artist’s point of view. After the short introduction each student taks about 2lbs of clay and prepares an egg form. Each sculpture emerges under close supervision and help of the instructor. At the end of the workshop, the instructor has a discussion with the students abou their creations.

This workshop is hihly concentracted and educational for beginners as well as professionals.

Growing up in Baku, one of the oldest cities in the Middle East, I developed a love and admiration for the breathtaking ancient architecture – its perfect blend of lights, textures and geometry. I started painting in 1994, on arriving as a refugee to the United States. I was feeling nostalgic at the time and spent hours painting in my parent’s basement, mainly images of old buildings and walls.

I moved to Fishtown in 2010 and discovered an incredible number of amazing places, including old churches, warehouses, narrow old streets and gorgeous brick walls. I aim to capture the image of the place by combining the free flow of the medium with concrete shapes and forms.

My medium of choice is oil and acrylic paint. I do not use brushes, I prefer to use sponges, metal plates, spackle knives and found objects. In my paintings I use copper, silver and gold tones that allow me to capture different effects of lights and shadows.
